Building a website contains many different elements, and is like a jigsaw puzzle with all the peices fitting before you actually publish the site.
This post concentrates on the niche, or subject, of what your website will actually be about.
Some people fall at this important stage as they just do not have a niche, or have so many ideas that a decision about which one to take does not happen….leading to paralysis by analysis.
In many ways, choosing a niche can be an exciting part of building your website, and I am really going to try to help you with this today.
So What Is A Niche?
Not understanding what a niche is can lead to confusion, so let me tell you that:
A niche is a specific portion of the market – or an “audience”
Usually, when choosing a niche it is something that you maybe have extensive knowledge in, or is part of your profession. However, a big part of choosing a niche can also depend on a few more reasons, such as:
- Your Hobby
- Something you are passionate about
- A message you want to get across
- An interest
- A need or a want
The list could go on, but why not think about all of these elements, and find out what really excites you?
Before I decided on a niche, I would list out subjects based on the above and whatever I thought of I just wrote down…straight from the hip, so to speak.
Pretty much anything can be a niche, but this is YOUR niche and you will be building a website around an audience that will relate to it, and ultimately for you to make money from.
If you still need a little help, then have a look at the video below, as this will help straighten the edges for you:

After watching the video, you should have a good idea what a niche can be, and that is a targeted audience, for a specific product and/or service.
If you are thinking of starting a site on gaming, then this would be way too broad. Go for a particular console, a particular genre, a particular age group, and so on….
There are billions of people online every minute, every hour of every day, looking for good quality content to help, assist or solve their particular problem, and this message is what you must focus on.
Basically do not be too broad when choosing a niche…..narrowing down can significantly help to find your target audience.
But Is My Passion Profitable?
Any subject can be transformed into a website. However, it is how you market your niche, and depending in the service or products, you need to be creative in what your passion, interest or hobby can give to your audience, but yes…..all can be profitable.
If you are into computers, and you can advise people how to save £250 on anti virus, courses on software, installing networks, and you have this in a £25 guide, you bet they will will buy.
Or if you are a builder offering £15 courses for beginners on bricklaying, plumbing, roofing which could cost much more if you hired someone to show you….of course it would sell.
The same can apply to dress making, baking, fishing, languages….there are so many to choose from…..you just need to find one that works for you.
If you still need a little help. .that is fine, don’t worry. Have a look at the link below for a great written piece to help you:
OK…But What Direction Do I Take?
I want you to select a niche that is interesting to you, and that really excites you.
By now you should have a good idea on what niche you would like to work on, however, if you are still undecided on one, the Money Making niche should be your starting point.
With every new niche, there are rules that apply to your process. These are:
- You will write quality content within your chosen niche
- You will communicate within your chosen niche
- You will choose products to promote within your nice
- You will enjoy helping people within your niche
- Your first chosen niche will probably NOT be your last, so do not worry about it not being perfect
- Your niche CAN earn money
Do NOT believe what some guru’s preach….
Any Niche Is Profitable….There is NO such thing as choosing the wrong niche!!
We are all aware that people change their minds on a variety of issue’s, and niche selection is one if them. You may not stay in your first chosen niche as it may not last forever.
