Of course, to make sales from your website you need people to visit your site, so what better way to achieve this than with free traffic.
Traffic is key to the survival of your site…..without this you will not be getting visitors, and your rankings will fail as a result.
Traffic = Visitors
Visitors = Content Read
Content Read = Sales
Sales = Money
Very simple, but sometimes people forget to think about the traffic element……so that is why I want to show you how to get free traffic, which is different to the paid traffic used by the more advanced marketer.
When you add content to your site, you will always get some traffic coming your way, and when you start getting traffic you think “Awesome! I want more traffic, so how do I get more?”
Writing quality content will draw visitors in, but so will average content, and this will lead to some sales – but why stop there?!
What you need is Targeted Traffic
This means getting people to your site who WANT what you are selling, are INTERESTED in what you say, and ultimately BUY what you are promoting or reviewing.
OK, so your site is set up and live, you have written content, your keyword research is done, and its looking good….but HOW do you know that you are actually getting visitors to your site?
Answer – Google Analytics
This will tell you how many people visit your site , where the people are, how long they are on your site, what pages they view….and so much more.
If you are using any other program to analyse your visitors, i recommended you stop using it and load Google Analytics as this will not drain your resource, and it offers much more insight.
If you need help setting this up, then check out the video below.
As mentioned earlier, your site is ready and your keywords are in place…… Let’s back up a little though….
Getting traffic is important, but you must do your keyword research first. Thus will target specific people who search for a specific word or phrase.
If you heed help to understand how to get keywords that bring traffic then go to my post Keyword Research as it is important to understand where to get traffic and why keywords are so important…..and this leads us onto……..
Why Is Traffic So Important then?
Traffic is key to your survival….no traffic = no sales.
Getting targeted traffic is far more beneficial than people coming to your site at random.
What do I mean by that?
Certain online offers can suck you in to buy traffic to your site, say $5 for guaranteed 10,000 visitors (sometimes more), from say, Fiverr. However this is traffic that just flicks over your pages and part sts with no interest in what you are offering.
It is far better to get targeted people coming to yoursite, interested in what you are offering and selling, rather than just to increase your traffic rate alone.
You can get 200 people a day and get 5 to 10 sales, not unrealistic, with targeted visitors, and 10,000 visitors with 1 to 2 sales (maybe…) from people sent to you at random.
After all we are here to make money and provide a product or service that people are LOOKING FOR.
By using Google analytics you can see what pages are being looked at by your visitors. Therefore giving you the opportunity to use these most viewed pages to be used to sell items. Very useful right…..?
So, How Can I Get Targetted Traffic Then?
OK, so we’ve talked about WHAT traffic we want…..now let me tell you HOW to get it.
There are 2 main ways to achieve this.
1) Social Media
You can select what “hang out” social groups to be involved in relevant to your niche.
People will be in interested in what you say, but DO NOT keep using social media to post links all over the place….people will not like this…..trust me! Would you like it if you kept getting other peoples links every 10 minutes…every day….no, right!?
You can , however, choose when is suitable to post links.
Facebook has groups you can join, or be in invited to be part in of, follow people in your niche, engage in Twitter chats, use Google Communities…these are just a few I use, and when you engage with a people it results in trust…..and traffic when they visit your site.
Wealthy Affiliate has a great course on Social Marketing….see link below and start NOW!
Don’t just promote yourself, engage in these groups by commenting on their posts, ask questions and offer your help or unique information. Others will follow you back and look at your profile.
To be connected means people will be interested in you and what you have to offer and naturally people will visit your site.
If you keep offering quality content, then people will return to your site, share with friends, family and work colleagues. People sharing your content are gold dust, as they like what you write or offer, and in turn share it with no hesitation. What better example of trust in your work than that!
OK, this may take time to build up…but this is GENUINE traffic. And if things do get get a little slow, then keep learning about your niche, keep posting, keep offering help, and you will succeed.
Facebook have groups you can join, Google Communities, Twitter engagement, Pinterest postings and Instagram chats…thee really are lots to choose from.
Keep contact with the groups and communities, learn about their problems, offer solutions, write an article about how you helped someone. When somebody else has the same problem, they will visit your site and…viola!…solution is already at hand for them to read! And this does happen!
It can be hard to keep track of social media results but keep creating quality content, keep engaging with people then they will visit your site.
Stick to a plan. Keep a note of time taken, what you write about, what engagements ans discussions you have, and if it works…keep doing it. If not, say after a couple of months, revise what you are doing and try a different approach with people.
DO NOT give up…remember, this is your plan, your business and it will take time to get started.
2) Keywords…and Low Hanging Fruit
You will know that thee are millions…billions of websites around, so when you first start out it will be very hard for you to be found and receive traffic.
Content has been drummed into you and yes, this is key. However posting 20, 30 blogs a week is just not going to happen.
So, keywords will be crucial..or, more specific, low competition keywords, to be precise….or also known as low hanging fruit.
OK…so how does that work…!?
1) Find low competition keywords
2) Optimise your posts for these keywords
3) Rank on search engines for these keywords
3) Write lots of these types posts over time
OK…But Why Do I Have To Do This?
1) Each keyword gets you a few visitors per day…this adds up to some good traffic
2) Quality, high target keywords results in more engagement on your posts
3) More engagement, with more traffic, helps your ranking and authority
I go for super low competition keywords, even if that means traffic is low. Why…? Do this over and over again you build traffic slowly, which then increases into much more as it snowballs, and higher rankings for higher competition keywords.
I hope this has really helped, and please leave a comment below if you need any help, or want to get in touch.
