What is a Niche?
This is the first step in the process of becoming a successful affiliate marketer, yet it stumps everyone (even me). So, how can you find a profitable niche?
Lets start by learning, What is a Niche? Lets being by reading the google definition below.
Let’s break it down
A niche will be a product or service that you want to promote to your consumer. It is generally easier to promote a niche that you are passionate about. If you have no interest in the product you promote, how can you expect the consumer to buy that product from you? How will you be able to create content on that product?
Finding a niche can be really tough. Some say it is the hardest part of the journey. For others its extremely easy. If you’re like me and this is the hard part in your journey. These are the questions that you need to ask yourself.
What product will I promote? Is there a market for this product? How will I make my sales?
Now that we understand, “What is a Niche”, lets start with “How to Find your Niche”.
Find your Niche and Target Audience
These are the steps I use every time, I find them extremely helpful and simple.
- Write down that products you are interested in
- Pick a sub-niche within that product (write the down)
- Pick an audience that you would like to promote too, and sell ofcourse
(Step 1) Let’s take for example your interested in joining the Amazon Affiliate Program. Great start, however to broad… Let’s narrow it down…
(Step 2) What will you promote for Amazon, because it is unlikely you can promote every product and get any ratings in the process.
So, how about Health & Fitness, it narrows down your niche. Also, this sounds like a niche we can work with.
(Step 3) Next, we have to find our audience… Who would Health & Fitness be interesting to:
- Some one hoping to loose weight, and get that perfect summer body
- Some one hoping to start a better diet, and stop eating pizza for dinner
- Some one hoping to reduce their BMI (Body Mass Index) and become healthier

This is just to name a few but as you can see just within this sub-niche there are many possibilities.
You can continue this process writing down niches, getting more specific, and picking a target audience until you are confident and interested in what you have chosen.
Now that we have discusses “What is a Niche” and “Find your Niche and Target Audience”, what will you promote as an Affiliate Marketer?
How to decide what to promote?
The answer to that question is very simple, What are you passionate about? For some it can be health related (fitness, weight loss, diet), it can be electronics, home ware, medical, cooking. The list goes on. Or why choose just one product to promote? Promote multiple things to increase your source of revenue and your chance at success.
Is there a market for this product?
This is where you will have to spend some time researching the product. Are people buying this product? Who is my target group? What is that target groups median income? Who is my competitor? There are also programs available for you. One helpful tool for any Affiliate is a keyword tool. In short, a keyword tool can tell you the average number of traffic/searches that keyword receives annually. I will be talking more about this in an upcoming post!!
How will I make my sales?
That will be the fun and creative part of this journey. You can build websites! Create a Facebook, Instagram or Twitter Account, make videos and upload them on YouTube. The possibilities are endless, have fun with this part. Remember you want this to look good, because these platforms will be representing you and your brand. If your brand is good, you will get traction. If your brand is sloppy, your sales will definitely reflect that.
